Seawall saved Shore during storm, now towns urge holdouts to let work proceed

Heavy surf pounded the beaches in northern Ocean County this past weekend, swallowing large swaths of sand and causing severe erosion.

In parts of Mantoloking and Brick, the water is right up to the steel seawall, which saved those towns from major property damage. And now officials in both towns are imploring residents to sign easements to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to proceed with its replenishment.

Nucor Skyline providing steel to historic surge barrier project in New Orleans

Working with Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure Group, Nucor Skyline is providing steel for the largest design-build civil works project in the history of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Surge Reduction - as it's officially named - is a $695-million wall barrier designed to protect New Orleans from storm surges similar to that generated by Hurricane Katrina.

Nucor Skyline is furnishing almost 18,000 tons of steel pipe (36" OD x .750 wall) to Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure Group for this massive two-mile long project. When the production and fabrication are complete, the steel pipe will be loaded on barges and transferred to a Shaw subsidiary in Delcambre, LA.

Nucor Skyline is proud to be the steel supplier for such an elaborate, and important project that has the potential of impacting millions of people as well as the environment in a positive manner.

Three Rivers Park District Road Stabilization Project Using NZ 19

As seen in PileBuck - Jul/Aug 2015: – Problem: The road in the Intercity Regional Trail was deteriorating in two locations and was also showing signs of erosion. The design called for a permanent steel sheet pile wall with a concrete cap. The project consisted of two walls. Wall #1 measured 440 linear wall feet and required sheets ranging from 15'–25' long. Wall #2 was 230 linear feet with sheets ranging from 15'–25' long. When Kraemer North America submitted the bid, they planned on using PZ 22 sheets.
