Nucor Skyline

Over the past 50 years, fully threaded, high-strength threaded bar and multi-strand anchor systems with corrosion protection have developed into the most accepted and highly reliable ground anchorages available. As the leading steel supplier in the United States’ foundation industry, Nucor Skyline manufactures the most extensive selection of cold rolled and hot rolled, high-strength, fully threaded bars at multiple locations throughout the United States.

Threaded bars are offered in both 80 ksi and 150 ksi steel grades, in sizes ranging from #14 to #32 (cold rolled), and in Grade 80 with sizes ranging from #6-#20 (hot rolled). Cold rolled, high-strength Grade 150 ksi bars are offered in diameters of 1 ¼ to 3 inches. Bars are manufactured to a maximum single length of up to 60 feet.

The fully-threaded bar can be cut and coupled in the field at any point to allow for job site flexibility. The bars are suitable for many applications that work well with other foundation products. Tie-rods and soil anchors can be utilized in conjunction with sheet pile and other retaining walls. Threaded bar cages are used with casing to make high-capacity drilled shafts. Threaded bars are also used as the main reinforcement component in micropiles.

Our broad range of threaded bar accessories, which can be customized to fit your needs, was designed to perfectly complement our threaded bars and facilitate installation. Couplers, both tap-through and stop-type, are available for all bar sizes and grades. Full load nuts and jam nuts are available in either a hex or a round "collar" style with flats machined onto the outer diameter. All hardware has been designed and tested to exceed the minimum ultimate tensile strength of the bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are rolled threads important in threaded bar applications?

Nucor Skyline's manufacturing process creates rolled threads rather than cut threads, producing a stronger profile with better fatigue resistance. Rolled threading maintains the material's grain structure and actually work-hardens the steel, increasing its tensile strength. This process eliminates stress concentrations that could lead to failure under cyclic loading conditions.

What is the difference between a threaded rod and a bolt?

A threaded rod is a fully threaded metal bar without a head, designed for tension applications across extended lengths. Bolts have heads on one end and typically shorter threads, requiring nuts for fastening. Unlike bolts, threaded rods can be cut to length and coupled as needed for custom applications.

What materials are Nucor Skyline's threaded bars made of?

Nucor Skyline manufactures threaded bars from high-quality steel conforming to ASTM A615 Grade 80 ksi for standard applications and specialized alloy steel for our Grade 150 ksi high-strength bars. Our domestic manufacturing facilities ensure consistent quality and material traceability across our entire product range.
