Nucor Skyline’s fully threaded bars may be coupled by screw-on, sleeve-type couplers at any point. Hex nuts and jam nuts may also be used, providing great versatility in the fabrication of structural column or pile reinforcing steel. The Nucor Skyline-manufactured grade 80 ksi threaded bar system meets the ASTM A 615 Standard Specification for Deformed Carbon-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement requirements.
Pre-assembled Reinforcing Bar Cages
Nucor Skyline is a leader in custom-manufactured steel products for the foundation industry. We can produce pre-assembled configurations of fully threaded bar at our multiple manufacturing locations. Overhead bridge cranes and large steel warehouses facilitate the assembly of bars, custom spacer rings, and top and bottom structural plates. High tensile strap bands are used to stabilize the cages for lifting and transport. With our extensive expertise and infrastructure, we can fabricate and ship large foundation steel components to just about anywhere in the United States.
For example, cage assemblies over 65 ft long, with 18 circumferential #18 grade 75 bars, have been transported over 1,000 miles with only minor field adjustments required upon arrival. Cages measuring 130 feet in length have been produced in our Camp Hill, PA manufacturing facility and shipped directly to the job site in Manhattan, NY.

Threaded bar reinforcing steel is commonly used as a tension device in reinforced concrete. The threaded bars help to strengthen the concrete. Concrete has very little tensile strength, so the reinforcing steel significantly increases its strength. The threads on the bar help the concrete adhere to the surface of the bar.

A recent project in the Boston Harbor used custom-made reinforcing steel cages as the foundation for light towers at Logan International Airport. Nucor Skyline was able to produce pre-fabricated bar cages, from 60 to 83 feet in length. Each of the bar cages, weighing upwards of 35 tons, were comprised of 24 #28 bars and 24 #18 bars, along with welded reinforcing steel hoops, and 4,000 standard reinforcing steel wire ties. The bars and hoops were coated to ASTM A934, Purple Marine Epoxy, and all of the hardware and plates were hot dip galvanized to avoid corrosion.
These reinforcing steel cages can be dropped into large diameter pipes for drilled shaft support in difficult soil conditions.
